From Dharma to Data: Research Ethics through an Indian Knowledge Systems Lens

Abstract

The session offered a thought-provoking perspective on how the timeless principles of the Indian Knowledge System can guide ethical research practices in today's data-driven world. One of the highlights of the session was an engaging debate in which students assumed the symbolic identities of Ajatashatru, Savyasachi, Vrikodara, and Kuldev to deliberate on themes such as Integrity, Funds and Resources, Balancing Integrity with Resources, and Creativity and Innovation. Through this interactive activity, Dr. Soumya Prakash connected the characters and philosophies of the Mahabharata with the Purusharthas; Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha, demonstrating how ethical decision-making, ambition, resources, and societal responsibility must coexist in every stage of the research journey.
